Christmas is officially over, college has officially re-started and exams are very quickly approaching. Since I’m taking 5 subjects for AS, I have 5 exams (6 if you count IT Key Skills – but I don’t) 3 of which are on Wednesday (Biology and Maths; C1 and C2).
I have spent most of the weekend revising, excluding Saturday evening, when I went to Wildlife Aid. Wildlife Aid is an charity which cares for, rehabilitates and attempts to return sick, injured or orphaned animals back to the wild. I have been volunteering there every week on a Saturday evening since the end of last year. The winter, I’m told, is usually not very busy, but in the spring things get very hectic with many more animals, lots of which are orphans. At the moment there are mainly pigeons and hedgehogs to be looked after. Other than replacing their food and water and generally making sure that they are all alright, some of the animals need force feeding. This week there was a particularly stubborn pigeon that nearly pooed on my foot in an attempt to stop Charlotte (another volunteer) and me from putting a tube into its crop. Eventually we managed it and then we moved on to the owl! The tawny owl with had its leg pinned by Guy also needed force feeding and this was a three-person job. I (after some struggle and putting on some very thick gloves) got the owl out of its carrier and held it while, Charlotte held its beak open and Adrian (another volunteer) put the chopped up bits of chick into its mouth.
Back at home my rats (Jasmin and Hollie) have taken up sleeping at the bottom of their cage in the corner where Ruby used to sleep. They usually used to sleep in their hammock at the top of the cage. We assume this is their way of missing her. Hopefully having each other will help…
